It is natural to desire to have nice things. It’s true that you feel better when you know you are looking good. Advertisers do their best to help us to determine what we should spend our money on. They set trends and you can notice the trends by watching other people around you. As a result, it is probable that many of your classmates have on a pair of Jordans right now. I recently discovered that a pair of Jordans that came out when I was in high school are selling for $190. That is unreal! However, people are willing to pay that price. Some people have that kind of money to spend on shoes and some people don’t. Growing up, I wanted every pair of Jordans that came out. My family couldn’t afford them. I was disappointed because I felt like I didn’t fit in with my friends. I had some bad information. The truth was that I didn’t need Jordans to fit in. I had the love of my family and I was filled with potential. My teachers recognized my potential and helped me grow. They didn’t treat me differently because I didn’t have Jordans. Thank goodness that who we are does not have to be defined by what we own. Please remember that the next time you get a feeling of “less than” because you don’t have the right clothing, shoes or accessories. As long as you have love and positive people helping you reach your goals, you have all you need. Think about it.
