Do you know what a resumé is. The word ‘resumé’ comes from the French Language. It means “a summary” or “to sum up.” Resumés are used to determine a person’s qualifications for a position. The position could be a job or an internship. Typically, a resumé describes a person’s past job history. However, many influential organizations use resumés to determine if a person is the right fit for acceptance into the organization. Unfortunately, we live in a world with cut off points and scarcity. There will come a day when hundreds of people want the same job that you want. The only thing that you will have to set yourself apart from those hundreds of people is your resumé. Before you can get an interview, your resumé has to impress. Think about that. You better have a strong resumé when the time comes.
Right now, you are working on your very first resumé. You may not even be aware of it but you are. Remember, a resumé is a summary. It doesn’t always have to be a summary of past job history. It can be a summary of what you’ve done in school, and that information is very important. You can find this information in your transcript. It’s how colleges make their decisions about whether or not to accept you. Your first resumé is very important in determining your future. With each and every day that you get up and go to school you are adding to or subtracting from your resumé. Hopefully you are consistently adding positive things to your resumé because not everyone receives an acceptance letter from every college they apply to. Hopefully, this proves to you just how important the present is to your future. Keep this thought in mind each and every day. Ask yourself — will your resumé impress?
