The definition of mediocre is “neither good or bad, but barely adequate.” The word actually comes from the Latin Language which means “halfway up a rugged mountain.” As a student, you need to watch out for mediocre because it is so attractive. I am absolutely aware of the fact that students can and do take advantage of shortcuts when it comes to their education. I know that the percentage of students who actually read their assigned books from cover-to-cover is very disappointing. There are so many reasons you can use to convince yourself to take a shortcut. (After all, who wants to spend their free time doing homework?) Mediocre is very convincing, but is it the way you should go?
The truth is that there is no shortcut to success. You will only harm yourself if you take shortcuts. You will never be the best you can be if you do anything “halfway.” The most successful students around the country are the one’s who refuse the attractiveness of mediocre and go the extra mile. They take the challenging classes and complete ALL of their homework. Sure it is a lot of work, but they understand that colleges aren’t looking for mediocre. So think about this the next time mediocre creeps into your mind and tries to convince you to go “halfway.”
